Description

Delicious homemade donuts topped with a sweet maple glaze and crunchy pecans.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • extra flour for dusting
  • pinch of salt for the topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a donut pan with cooking spray or oil.
  2. Make the Donut Batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a separate bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
  3. Bake the Donuts: Spoon the batter into the prepared donut pan, filling each mold about halfway. Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  4. Prepare the Maple Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, maple syrup, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Make the Pecan Topping: In a separate bowl, mix chopped pecans, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt.
  6. Assemble the Donuts: Dip each cooled donut into the maple glaze, allowing excess to drip off. Sprinkle the pecan topping over the glaze while it’s still wet.

Notes

  • Ensure that your ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother batter.
  • If you prefer fried donuts, use the same batter and deep-fry until golden brown.
  • For a deeper maple flavor, consider using a maple extract in addition to the syrup.
  • Toast the pecans briefly for added crunch and depth of flavor before chopping them.
