Description

These delightful cupcakes combine the flavors of classic cinnamon rolls with a fluffy cupcake base, topped with cream cheese frosting and garnished with mini cinnamon rolls.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Ground cinnamon for dusting
  • Mini cinnamon rolls (store-bought or homemade)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

  2. Prepare the Cupcake Batter: In a small bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract. Gradually add the flour mixture alternately with the milk, mixing until just combined.

  3. Cinnamon Swirl: In a separate bowl, combine melted butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon. Spoon about 1 tablespoon of cupcake batter into each liner, then add a small amount of the cinnamon mixture. Layer with more batter until liners are ¾ full, and swirl the cinnamon mixture into the batter with a toothpick.

  4. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool in the pan for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  5. Prepare Cream Cheese Frosting: Beat the softened butter and cream cheese together until smooth and creamy. Gradually add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, beating until smooth and fluffy.

  6. Decorate: Using a piping bag, frost the cooled cupcakes with the cream cheese frosting. Top each cupcake with a mini cinnamon roll and a light dusting of ground cinnamon.

Notes

  • Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for a smoother batter and frosting.
  • To enhance the cinnamon flavor, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg or cardamom to the cinnamon swirl.
  • If you don’t have mini cinnamon rolls, you can make a simple rolled pastry with cinnamon sugar as a substitution.
  • For an extra flavor touch, drizzle the cupcakes with a bit of caramel sauce before serving.
