Description

A deliciously moist chocolate cake made with Coca-Cola and topped with a fudgy frosting.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup Coca-Cola
  • 1 cup salted butter
  • 6 tablespoons baking cocoa
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk (*see notes)
  • 1/2 cup salted butter
  • 3 tablespoons baking cocoa
  • 6 tablespoons Coca-Cola
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9 x 13-inch cake pan.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl, whisking the flour, sugar, and baking soda together.
  3. Put the butter, cocoa powder, and soda in a small saucepan. Whisk it together, place it on medium heat, and bring it to a boil. Make sure to keep whisking.
  4. Once it starts boiling, take the mixture off heat and pour it into the bowl with the flour mixture.
  5. Stir everything together until it’s thoroughly combined.
  6. Add the vanilla, buttermilk, and eggs to the mixture, stirring until it’s well mixed.
  7. Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking pan.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. The cake is done when a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.
  9. When you remove the cake from the oven, start on your frosting. Put the butter, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, and Coca-Cola in a medium saucepan. Mix and bring it to a boil, stirring constantly.
  10. Once it starts boiling, take the saucepan off the heat. Add the powdered sugar and mix until your frosting is smooth and creamy.
  11. Pour the fudgy frosting over the hot cake right away.
  12. Let the cake cool for about 10 minutes so the frosting hardens.

Notes
